Duties

• The Chief Librarian should be able to assist the Polytechnic Librarian in the performance of his/her duties.
• He/she should coordinate book selection and be ready in the production/maintenance of catalogue records.
• He/she would teach on the use of Library.
• He/she should assist in establishing cataloguing, classifications, reference and selection policies.
• He/she should be able to perform any other duties as maybe assigned to him/her.

Qualifications and Experience

• Applicant should be a holder of Ph.D. in Library Science with at least thirteen (13) years post qualification cognate experience OR MLS with at least seventeen (17) years post qualification cognate experience plus four (4) Journal publications and three (3) Conference Papers; four (4) chapter contributions or two (2) standard Textbooks. Evidence of community service will be an added advantage.
• Membership of relevant professional body is mandatory.

Qualities:

• Applicant must be a person of proven integrity.
• He/she would have the ability to collate library statistics/production of annual reports and other internal publications.
• He/she should be able to head a Library Division.
• He/she should have the ability of expanding and developing classification system.

The Person

         ·            The University Librarian is a Principal Officer of the University.

Duities

• The University Librarian is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the overall administration and coordination of the University Library, its branches and extensions and providing services for the entire University community.
• Preparing library budgets

• Engaging in matters of common interest for the benefit of readers and users of the Library
• Performing other duties that may be assigned by the Vice-Chancellor

• Framing Library policies, making personal contacts and liaising with Departments on book requirements as well as giving professional advice on library matters

Qualification and Experience
Applicant must:

• Possess a good honours Degree, Master's in Library Studies (MIS) and Ph.D
• Possess at least fifteen (15) years of cognate experience working in academic Library
• Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria
• Nigeria library Association
• Be highly computer literate and proficient in relevant computer applications as applicable to the running of a complex and modern University library.
• Not be below the rank of a Deputy Librarian
• Have scholarly publications in reputable journals

Remuneration

• The successful candidate will be entitled to the salary and other conditions of service as are applicable tothe librarian in any Federal University in Nigeria.

Condition of Service

• The appointment shall be for a single term of Five(5) years and may be extended for a further period of one year only, after which the Librarian shall relinquish the past and be assigned to other duties in the University if an internal candidate.
• The appointment is further governed by the Federal Government Establishment circulars as may be adopted by the Governing Council from time to time.
