Job Description
The University Librarian, a principal officer of the University, shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the good management of the University library and other library services in the University.
Qualification and Experience
The criteria to be satisfied by candidates for this post are as follows:
Must possess a good honours degree with a minimum of Second Class, Masters and PhD in Library Science, Library and Information Science or related field from a recognized University.
Must demonstrate academic excellence in quality publications, teaching and research, and credible community service.
He/she must be computer literate and show evidence of considerable scholarship and understanding of the application of new technologies to Library operations. Post-qualification experience in reputable University Library Comparable Institutions or research Institutions.
He/she must be a person with leadership qualities, high integrity and unquestionable character and an outstanding manager of men and resources.
Salaries and Conditions of Service
Salaries and Conditions of Service for University Librarian appointment is made for fixed period of five (5) years only. The Salary is as approved for University Librarian in Nigerian Federal Universities as may be determined from time to time by Governing Council.

A Study of Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) Online Database Resources and the Roles of Health Science Librarian in Information Delivery

Abstract

Evidenced based Medicine (EBM) is rapidly growing and has been receiving more recognition since last decade, due to its potential to effectively handle clinical challenges of patient. EBM involves making sound decisions about treatment of patients which can significantly improve healthcare delivery and save human lives. The current emphasis on evidence-based healthcare has necessitated and increases the demand for information resource. The need for timely and quality filtered information at the point of care has demand the search for dependable information source(s). Conversely, one of the main challenges facing EBM physician today is, where to find available and reliable clinical evidence for effective decision making. The information explosion caused by internet as well as many untrustworthy source of information in the electronic environment, coupled with lack of time on the part of physicians to assess desired information has further created vital roles for health librarians at the point of care. Therefore, the objective of this study is to bridge the gap between physician and EBM research by providing knowledge and gateway access to EBM online database resource for health professionals, as well the roles played by health Science Librarian in the practice. It is hope that, it will become a tool and guide resource for evidenced based medicine decision making in the health sciences which would in turn provides quality care of individual patients, and also improves accountability for health care practices and promotes life-long learning.

Call for Applications: The AAU Graduate Internship Grant



The Association of African Universities (AAU) has intensified its support for students from its member institutions to acquire employable skills before graduating from their universities. Through support from its development partners, namely African Capacity Development Foundation (ACBF) and Swedish International Development Agency (Sida), the AAU has secured funds for its member universities in good standing (whose annual subscription payment to AAU is up to date) to offer small grants of up to US$600 per student for graduate internships. 
Conditions for the Award of the Grant 
•Grant applicants should be students pursuing post-graduate degree programmes. Applicants should note that the grants are for training purposes only and not meant for the completion of theses or dissertations.
• Applicants shall commit to undertake an internship programme for a period between twelve (12) and twenty-four (24 weeks). 
• Applications should be supported with an authorisation note from the Head of Department of the applicant’s university as well as an official acceptance letter from the establishment wishing to host the intern.
• All applicants should submit a detailed curriculum vitae.
• A detailed but confidential supervisory report would be required from the host institution on the progression of the applicant during the period of internship, and from the University of the Applicant on academic progress after the period of internship. 
• Past beneficiaries of the AAU Internship Scheme are not eligible to apply.
• Consideration would be given to applicants who have no practical work experience.
Selection Criteria 
Selection of successful applications would be based on a quota system revolving around gender (at least 40% of beneficiaries should be females); country (not more than 10 applicants per country) and language (at least 30% from Francophone institutions).
